What Is The Sunrise Movement?

Sunrise is a youth movement to stop climate change to create millions of good jobs in the process. We're building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and well being of all people.

Here are our current teams and projects

TEAMS:

Free DART for Students
  • We succeeded in making DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) free for students K-12!

Affordable and accessible public transit is not only a climate issue, but also an equity, health, and economic issue.

Sunrise Dallas Movement House
  • The Movement House is located in Old East Dallas and serves as both a cross organizational community center and living space.

We work to create a space where activists, artists, and neighbors in the community can work, learn, and play through fun social events, native gardening, and educational workshops exploring environmental and social justice topics.

Follow us on Instagram for event announcements!

Communications Team
  • The Communications (Comms) team works to create accessible, inspiring, and educational materials to the public, the press, and the community- so they may be moved to join the movement- through social media, online forums, and press.

  • Hub Coordinators are elected positions. Hub Coordinators plan out the hub’s long-term vision and strategic orientation, coach Team Leads, oversee conflict resolution, and handle general hub logistics.

Chapter Development
  • Sunrise 2.0, the movement’s next 3-5 year plan, includes the creation of local Green New Deal campaigns. To create these campaigns, 10 hubs across the country - including the Dallas hub - have joined a “Chapter Development Cohort.” These hubs will transition into chapters by building out a multi-year, local GND campaign. The Chapter Development team will create this campaign alongside the local community through listening canvasses, research visits, establishing neighborhood teams, and more!

PROJECTS:

  • We engage with books, articles, podcasts, and more that explore a wide variety of environmental and social justice concepts. This space is open to any and all who want to learn collectively and form connections with others through meaningful conversations. Our Reading Club directly follows Coffee + Donuts, so it’s a great chance to make some new friends!
